Activities 1998

Winter 1998-
Rebuilding SeaBee Curve. Track crews spend numerous weekends yanking rotted ties out of the biggest curve on our railroad and replacing them with new ties, then reballasting and tamping ties.

This picture shows one of our horses pulling a partially dug out and unspiked tie. The horses seem to look forward to the new game of tug-the-tie. A specially bent tie tong is hooked to the tie. This is chained to the horses tugs (part of their harness) via the single tree. The horse steps forward and the tie is pulled. Saves my back!

Operations - Start April 1998
Once again our scheduled trains are running. Wednesday-Sunday as scheduled.

Here 1725 pulls into Ardenwood Station with a load of passengers from Deer Park Station.

Rusty Mary under active rebuilding- Spring and Summer 1998
Old Mission Cement #4 our 1921 Plymouth Switcher has been called Rusty Mary since we brought her to the museum. Now we need a new name. OMC#4 has a freshly painted black body can cab waiting to go back on to the frame once a few pesky issues are resolved.

SP 1010 closer to completion
Final exterior paint is going on the outside of combination car SP 1010. It is planned to take this car to RailFair in Sacramento next summer....
